  • Rowan University Center for Art and Social Engagement 237 U.S. 322 Glassboro, NJ, 08028 United States (map)

Curator: Mary Salvante

10 of 80 + 1 features ten artists from the Rowan University Art Gallery and Museum's permanent collection who were part of the original FOCUS exhibition of 81 artists. It highlights the return of Judith Bernstein's artwork, "Horizontal," originally removed from the 1974 exhibition due to a demand from the now-defunct Philadelphia Civic Center Museum. 10 of 80 + 1 delves into the events of 1974 that resulted in the censorship of Bernstein's work.

Participating artists include: Pat Adam, Judith Bernstein, Blythe Bohnen, Louise Bourgeois, Diane Burko, Audrey Flack, Nancy Grossman, Lila Katzen, Alice Neel, Sylvia Sleigh

This exhibition complements our permanent installation, "The Sister Chapel," which was established in 1978 as one of the earliest collaborative installations in feminist art. It features the works of June Blum, Maureen Connor, Martha Edelheit, Elsa M. Goldsmith, Shirley Gorelick, Ilise Greenstein, Betty Holliday, Diana Kurz, Cynthia Mailman, Alice Neel, Sylvia Sleigh, May Stevens, and Sharon Wybrants.
