Commonweal is excited to present Natessa Amin’s newest body of work. Co-curated by Rebecca O’Leary and Alex Conner, Amin’s first solo exhibition at the gallery focuses on her particular American experience with paintings that continue to document her reflections on cultural hybridity. Born and raised in Pennsylvania in an Indian-American family, Amin grew up navigating the complex relationships that were constructed through a combination of contrasting cultures and religions. Exemplified by the layering of symbols, patterns, and materials inspired by the artist's heritage, Amin’s processes aim to construct nuanced explorations of identities - both how they form and are transformed. Her introspective work investigates cycles of creation and destruction and the relationship of the self to surroundings.
