ARTIST TALK: Julie Linowes

  • The Boiler Room, Globe Dye Works 4500 Worth Street Philadelphia, PA, 19124 United States (map)

The Boiler Room at Globe Dye Works will feature a solo exhibition by Julie Linowes, curated by Marsha Moss. Linowes’ multi-disciplinary installation deploys large lightboxes, video projection, audio, and sculpture to create a highly evocative and dramatic environment. This powerful exhibit, Leave Your Tie At The Door, addresses the ongoing war on women, and leads the viewer through an experience that both celebrates sisterhood while challenging white patriarchal authoritarianism. The exhibit is also accompanied by music created specifically for this work by multi-instrumentalist and composer, David Roth. Over her career, Linowes’ work has explored female psychological structures and experiences using narrative devices and employing a surrealist aesthetic. Her work challenges the viewer on a visceral level, demanding they let go of rational understanding and surrender to an experience without answers.
