Intergenerational Tea Party April 26, 2024 (Lesbian Visibility Day)

Dyke+ ArtHaus and William Way LGBT Community Center have collaborated to showcase works by local Lesbian artists 55 and over that reflect feelings of visibility or invisibility - to the world, or to themselves.

When the world doesn’t see you, do you see yourself?

Silver Legs, Uncrossed comprises sculpture, painting, collage, photography, audio and video works dating from the 1970s to 2024. By addressing themes as varied as eating disorders, elder healthcare, and spirituality, these Dyke artists uncross their legs and sit visible in their existence.

“Looking back, it’s obvious my sexual orientation was always visible in my art, although not visible to me for most of my life.” - Linda Lee Alter

“As an old bold woman, invisibility is a cloak that I can wear comfortably or remove and use my voice to demand to be seen when I want to be seen.” - Sally Lilychild Willowbee

Exhibited during April, the same month in which Lesbian Visibility is celebrated in multiple parts of the world, Silver Legs, Uncrossed connects the scattered dots of regional lesbian artists into an ArtHaus that celebrates them all.
