For more than three decades, Wendy Stevens has been turning industrial metal into exquisite handbags with her own two hands. Living in New York City in 1983, Stevens’ inner artistic potential was triggered by the variety and use of materials surrounding her in the urban environment. Working intuitively, in an environment of artistic friends, she began to create an original, unique style, with a modern, durable and versatile accessory. Utilizing traditionally male-oriented materials, her results are feminine creations worthy of, and shown in, some of the most successful museums and galleries in the world that are equally accessible to women in their everyday lives. Stevens’ refined metal handbags are distinctive, recognizable and empowering. In 2010, Stevens received an invitation from the curator of the prestigious Tassenmuseum in Amsterdam for a solo, comprehensive exhibition. The museum then acquired four pieces for their permanent collection. Stevens' pieces have been exhibited at the Philadelphia Museum of Art, the Smithsonian Institution and at The British Arts Council in London.
