Peep Projects
Nicole Mouriño
March 11 - April 13
Peep is pleased to present a solo exhibition by Nicole Mouriño, Mama Dukes - the artist's first since 2016 and in Philadelphia. The exhibition features the unveiling of Love Languages, a monumental painted triptych alongside an intimate series of works on paper framed in hand-made tile. Compositions extracted from photographs of a flower shop's windows accumulate in layers of charcoal, polymer, and oil paint across the three large-scale panels, constructing an asynchronous decay and embellishment. Storefront windows, typically experienced as a passing image, are re-located as a site of permanent and ever-evolving potential.
Nicole Mouriño (b. 1987, MIA) is a Cuban-American artist based in Brooklyn, NY. Mouriño received an M.F.A. in Social Practice from Queens College ('16) and B.F.A. in Painting from Pratt Institute ('11). Her work has been exhibited at Sargent's Daughters, Shrine, BRIC, and Sideshow Gallery (all NY), and included in curated presentations at Untitled Miami, and Pulse Miami.
Erin Murray
April 20 - May 25
Peep Projects is pleased to present Objects and Their Fields, a solo exhibition by Philadelphia-based artist Erin Murray. Executed in graphite and ink on canvas, with drawing extending to the frames, these new works present a uniquely tactile experience of Murray’s architecturally based abstractions. Acknowledging the sensory and psychic phenomena that accompany our interactions with objects, Murray employs breathable illusionistic space to address both the subject and this space between the viewer and viewed. These works encourage us to slow down, examine the subtleties of our experience, and hint at the embodied nature of our surroundings.
Erin Murray (b. 1979, Philadelphia) earned a BFA from the Maryland Institute College of Art and has since exhibited widely in cities across the country, most recently at Hexum Gallery (VT), Peep Projects (PA), Pentimenti Gallery (PA), HOLDING Contemporary (OR), and Harpy Gallery (NJ). She was a 2020/21 Drawing Center Viewing Program participant, and in 2018, she was honored with the Pollock-Krasner Foundation Grant. She has been awarded the West Collects acquisition prize, the Fleisher Wind Challenge Exhibition Grant, and a Center for Emerging Visual Artists Fellowship. Her work has been featured in Dovetail Magazine, New American Paintings, and The Drawing Stall Book. From 2012 to 2017, Murray served as a member of the artist-run collective Vox Populi in Philadelphia, the city where she lives with her partner and two young sons, which has nurtured her creativity for over two decades.
Peep Projects is an exhibition and project space in Kensington, Philadelphia. Peep predominantly organizes solo, two-person, and thematic group exhibitions with national, international, and Philadelphia-based artists focusing on site-specific installations. Peep started in a renovated studio in Viking Mill in 2020 but has since moved to Crane Arts at 1400 N American St. Philadelphia, PA 19122.
As an ode to Marcel Duchamp’s Étant Donnés (on view at the Philadelphia Museum of Art) a peephole was installed for viewers to peep the exhibitions from the hallways. Now at Crane Arts, visitors can view the exhibitions from a large window in the door.
